CBC- A history of residential schools in Canada

The CBC has established an in-depth resource of the history of the Residential School system in Canada. The collection includes an historical time-line, an archive of news items, FAQs and much more

The Star Pheonix

The Star Pheonix, Saskatoon's daily newspaper, provided an opportunity for the TRC to create and distribute a newspaper insert publicizing the Saskatchewan National Event. The insert allowed the Commission to reach thousands of households at a very low cost and maximizing the number of potential participants at the four-day gathering.

Other initiatives could include:

  • Feature stories about the legacy of residential schools such as the Toronto Star’s story about Charlie Hunter
  • Donate advertisement space or time to promote community and/or national events
  • Establish a regular column with prominent writers to encourage discussion and debate on the issue of reconciliation
